Journalism of Courage
Dombari,a Marathi movie highlighting the concerns of the Dombari community,will be out in the last week of June. The people of this community strive to make a living by performing on the streets be it young girls walking on a tight rope tied across bamboo poles or kids showing off their gymnastics skills. The movie has been directed by Bapusaheb Karande,and stars Milind Shinde,Hemangi Kavi,Madhu Kambikar,and also actors from the Dombari community,Paghmini Patil,and Rukmini Phawde. The Dombari community has not had access to education,has no voting rights,no jobs,no land-holdings and are often neglected by society and government alike. This movie is an attempt to highlight the plight of these downtrodden people.
