Improvement panel post goes to NCP

Datta Bahirat of the Congress was elected chairperson of the legal committee while NCP corporator Vinayak Hanamgar was elected as deputy chairperson. Meenal Saravade of the NCP corporator and Sunanda Gadale of the Congress were elected unopposed as chairperson and deputy chairperson respectively of women and child welfare committee. Congress corporator Avinash Bagwe was elected chairperson while NCP corporator Sachin Dodke was elected deputy chairperson of the sports committee.

As the proposal of revised development plan is pending with the city improvement committee,the NCP and the Congress both claimed the post of chairperson of the committee. The saffron combine contested all posts but failed to get elected due to lack of majority. The MNS members remained absent for elections making things easy for the NCP.

Although more than half the civic body members are women,they could not make it to the panels,other than the women and child welfare committee. The only two constitutional post that are being held by women are the mayor,reserved for women,and chairperson of the women and child welfare committee,which has all but one as women members.

All eyes are now set on the nomination and election of chairperson of the PMC election board.

Political parties also have to nominate their members for the general body as per the quota allotted to them on the basis of party strength in the PMC.
