The Jan Arogya Abhiyaan (JAA) has come down against homoeopath doctors for challenging the Food and Drug Administrations (FDA) legal action disallowing them to prescribe allopathic medicines.
The strike was nothing but an act of holding patients to ransom and challenging legal provisions, Dr Anant Phadke of the JAA said on Wednesday.
Phadke said the strike of homoeopaths is an act of claiming the right to prescribe allopathic medicines without having any formal training in allopathy.
The government is not serious about extending the principle of permission to give allopathic treatment commensurate with formal training to AYUSH doctors (which includes homeopaths, ayurvedic doctors and unani doctors),he said.
This apathy of the government has led to a situation where AYUSH doctors are increasingly prescribing several types of allopathic medicines without receiving any kind of formal training in allopathy.
Most of the out-patient primary care,in rural areas as well as in slum areas in cities,is provided by non-allopathic doctors where allopathic doctors are unwilling to go and provide service. So,this standoff is a vital issue and JAA in their statement has demanded that the state government should find out proper solution in this situation instead of just conducting symptomatic treatment.
