Maharashtra University of Health Sciences,Nashik and Michigan University ,United States were jointly awarded US $ 250,000 for the joint development of a Masters Degree in Education for Health profession faculty in the United States and India. Vice Chancellor of MUHS Prof.Dr.Arun Jamkar said that the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Barack Obama announced the Obama-Singh Initiative in November 2009. Each government pledged $ 5 million for this endeavour,for a total of $ 10 million. To implement this initiative,the Governments of India and the United States established a bi-national Obama-Singh Initiative joint working group (JWG). Jamkar further added that this Grant will be utilised to develop jointly a Masters degree programme in education that addresses the educational needs of faculty in the health professions.
