Mission successful
KEM Hospital recently felicitated six young children,on completing their class 10 and 12 examinations. The six children,who had undergone cochlear implants in their early childhood,completed their education from regular schools. Implanting surgeon Dr Neelam Vaid,speaking on the occasion,said,This felicitation is a gesture to prove that though they may have been hearing impaired at birth,they are absolutely normal children,they can go to normal schools,cope like average children and grow up to be normal adults.
To spread awareness about Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD),India Medtronic,in association with Ruby Hall Clinic recently organised a road show,passing through Chennai,Delhi and Pune. Led by angiology specialist Dr Matthias Ulrich,this team of doctors,which included the likes of Dr PK Grant,Dr Shirish Hiremath,Dr Dhanesh Kamerkar and Dr Chandrashekhar Makhle,performed various operations. Speaking at the occasion,Dr Ulrich said,There are around 50.8 million people in India who suffer from diabetes,and 25 per cent of them are expected to have PAD. A sedentary lifestyle and lack of exercise coupled with smoking puts one at a higher risk of lifestyle-related diseases like diabetes and hypertension,which consequently advances the risk of PAD.
Teg Gyan foundation,in association with Sahyadri Hospital organised a blood donation camp in the city recently. More than 150 donors participated in the drive.
