The Bombay High Court on Thursday sought all the information that Talegaon-based social activist Satish Shetty who was killed on January 13 had obtained through Right to Information Act (RTI).
Last week the court took suo motu notice of Shettys murder, which was preceded by an attack on social activist Naina Kathpalias house in Mumbai a few days earlier. Today, the division bench of Justice F I Rebello and Justice J H Bhatia referred to newspaper reports, saying that Shettys murder had connection with his crusade against illegal constructions and said the court should pursue these matters.
The judges also appointed senior counsel D Madon as amicus curie to assist the court and directed the government to provide him copies of the (documentary) information that Shetty had been given under RTI.
Meanwhile,in an affidavit filed before the court, acting Director General of Police A N Roy has said names of six persons have come to light during the probe into Shettys murder and three of them have been arrested.
In another affidavit, state Home Secretary Chandra Iyengar has stated that the police have been given instructions to act promptly whenever any social activist complains of a threat. When a request for protection is made by an activist,a threat perception report will be immediately prepared by the police station concerned and submitted to the commissioner of police, Iyengars affidavit stated.
Meanwhile, the arguments for the NARCO analysis test of advocate Vijay Dabhade, arrested for his alleged links with the murder of Shetty, did not take place at the Wadgaon Maval court on Thursday. Public prosecutor Shashikant Shinde said Dabhade could not come to the court as he was suffering from high blood pressure. The arguments may take place in a couple of days, he said.
The Pune rural police had submitted an application before Judicial Magistrate (first class) R D Hazare at Wadgaon Maval court on Monday, seeking permission to conducting brain mapping and NARCO test of Dabhade.
