A piece of Romanian cinema gets their story here with The Happiest Girl in The World being screened at PIFF
Not more than seven films are directed in Romania annualy. And when they hit the screens, their cinema attracts a sparse audience filtered from the rest who prefer Hollywod films. However, interestingly, around five of them gain international recognition traveling at film festivals, winning awards and exceptional reviews. Currently being screened at the Pune Intrnational Film Festival (PIFF) after winning accolades at Berlin and Bulgaria,The Happiest Girl In The World,is one of them.
Shot in 20 days and funded primarily by the state,Stanciu says education in cinema has a long way to go in the country that is now seeing globalisation. Reminiscing about her earlier days the young writer, who is also the production designer of the film says,As a child I remember living in poverty till around 1989 when the reforms started. However, people indulged in a lot of writing and reading since there was not much to do although education was always there. Conversely I want to write more films on the current condition and the changes that have occurred in the country after being a part of the European Union rather than the stories of the past.
