Gujarat trader arrested for smuggling charas

Khadak police on Friday arrested a trader from Gujarat for smuggling charas worth Rs 4.5 lakh.

Khadak police on Friday arrested a trader from Gujarat for smuggling charas worth Rs 4.5 lakh. The suspect,Amitabh Sureshchandra Saxena (43),a resident of Westyard Railway Colony,Valsad,Gujarat,was produced before a magistrate on Saturday. The court remanded Saxena in police custody till April 30.

Police had earlier arrested two suspects in this case identified as Arvind Pandurang Sakpal and Mohan Narayan Pujari. Charas weighing 2,280 grams was seized from them. Sustained interrogation revealed that the duo brought charas from Gujarat.

Police told the court that Saxena’s custodial interrogation was required to find out if he has any accomplices. Assistant police inspector S R Shirke is investigating the case.
