GPS devices,speed governors: IT firms to implement guidelines

NASSCOM chairman and Zensar Technologies chief executive Ganesh Natrajan said,“The guidelines are good and should be implemented. Nothing is more important than the safety of young women who are employed with the industry. At Zensar,we have already formed a women core group to look into these issues.”

Deepak Shikarpur,chairman,IT sub committee,MCCIA,said,“The initiative should be appreciated as now companies would implement the guidelines. In the past,some companies did not bother about the security aspect.”

Shinde said drivers should carry identity cards and wear uniforms. The companies should provide these two items and form a squad to conduct surprise checks on cabs. “There are several social groups who work for the welfare of women. Companies should form a women’s grievance solution cell.”

He said women employees should take the basic precautions like sending an SMS to relatives or friends with details of the cab. “If the driver is not a resident of the city,the company should have details about the town he hails from,of his family,character and criminal record,if any. The company should have extra drivers in its workforce so that it does not have to hire temporary ones in case of emergency.”
