Pune City Police thrashed Prabhakar Aspat Academy while Super XI earned a narrow win over Rakshak Sports Club in the 31st edition of the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial Hockey tournament being played at the Major Dhyan Chand Hockey stadium.
Pune City Police were in imperious form as they pumped in seven goals against a hapless Prabhakar Aspat Academy. Vinod Limbore and Sujit Sutke starred for the Pune City Police,scoring four and two goals respectively. Limbore opened the scoring in the sixth minute as he turned in an accurate centre from Amol Bhosale. Sutke then popped up in the striking circle to score a brace,sounding the board in the seventh and the 15th minute. Incidentally,Bhosale was the provider for both of Sutkes goals. The day got better for both Bhosale and Limbore as the former supplied two more pinpoint passes for Limbore to record two more goals. Limbore scored his fourth and last goal in the 38th minute.
Three minutes later,Prashant Gaikwad turned in another Bhosale pass to log the seventh goal for the Pune City Police. Shubham Pant converted a penalty corner in the 10th minute to score the only goal for Prabhakar Aspat Academy.
In another match,Super XI fought back from a goal down to take home full points against Rakshak Sports Club. Dhondiba Pujari had given Rakshak SC the lead when he scored off a Sandeep Ahiwale pass in the 27th minute. Rakshak SC went into the break with a 1-0 lead but it was a rejuvenated Super XI that took the field for the second half.
Four minutes in,Sachin Kamble squared the ball in the striking circle for attacker Nitin Salvi to pounce and restore parity for Super XI. Eight minutes later,Super XI earned a penalty corner which Santosh Musale converted to give his side the lead and ultimately victory.
In the third match of the day,Railway Police Line Boys were given a walkover by Vikram Pillay Academy A. SRPF Pune will take on Hockey Lovers and Kids XI will play PCMC on Monday.
