The anti-dacoity cell of Pune police crime branch has arreted a gang of three allegedly involved in ATM break-ins across the city. Police recovered Rs 9.43 lakh in cash,a vehicle and other items from the suspects.
The suspects,identified as Balu Eknath Kedar (21),Malhari Bhimrao Kedar (22) and Ramdas Shivaji Bade (24),are all natives of Shirur taluka in Beed district.
Acting on a tip-off to constable Vishnu Saravde,a team led by inspector Satish Govekar laid a trap and arrested the suspects near Shelke Mala on May 14.
Police confirmed their involvement in four crimes including the theft of Rs 22 lakh from an ATM in Shirur and Rs 8.08 lakh from a Phursungi ATM.
They also committed similar thefts in Hadapsar and Vishrantwadi areas,police said.
Addressing the media on Friday,Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Bansode said the suspects used to target ATM centres where security guards had not been deployed.
Police said Kedar is a historysheeter who was earlier booked for stealing money from a bank van carrying cash in Beed.
