The Cafe 15A at St Laurn Business Hotel offers a delectable combination of cuisines

The name reminds you of a unique address, and one immediately thinks of the street cafes of Naples. The reason behind the name is even more unique, but more on that later. Cafe 15A,located at the St Laurn Business Hotel, looks promising and beckoning. Done up tastefully for the holiday season,in earthy colours interspersed with reds, greens, whites, the ambience is non-intimidating and a reminder that this quiet place is for one to relax and unwind.

Located just off the North Main Road,Koregaon Park, the Cafe 15A,as the name suggests, borrows influences from the orient, the continental and the Indian cuisines,to offer a delectable choice of dishes for the diner. Executive chef Jai Prakash Bhatt says,“The restaurant derives its name from the unassuming cafe-like ambience of the restaurants in Europe that retain a classy feel combined with a laid back attitude. 15A is the address of the road in Koregaon Park, where our hotel is located.”

Coming to the dishes, for starters we ordered the Chicken Satay, the Classic Prawn Cocktail, and the Takatak Gutchi. Of the three starters, one each from the continental, the oriental and the Indian cuisine, the Takatak Gutchi, which was stuffed mushrooms with a spicy marinade of green herbs and spices, deserves a special mention. It was wonderful, and given the fact that mushroom dishes are not very common to the Indian cuisines,it was very tastefully done. The Chicken Satay is recommended for those who are not too inclined towards experimenting. The Prawns Cocktail,on the other hand, was just an overdose of mayonnaise sauce, combined with a spicy twang to it and a generous helping of prawns.

Bhatt adds,“We have these three cuisines as our in-house guests are mostly expats, but even the locals love trying out dishes from other parts of the globe.” The main course for us comprised the Steak Maison in Red Wine Sauce, the Chicken Tikka Wrap and the Lamb Risotto. Again for those who are not experimental, the Chicken Wrap is a great dish to order. The Steak, ordered well-done,was a juicy ,meaty affair, the red wine sauce complimenting the dish perfectly. The Lamb Risotto,on the other hand, was chewy in some parts.

The desert comprised the Chef’s Special Mud Pie served in crusty cups, along with a chocolate Santa Claus,in keeping with the holiday season. On the whole, for someone who is looking out to spend a quiet evening dinner with the family,Cafe 15A is a good option.
