To provide effective and efficient service, the police department has come up with paperless system at the foreigner’s registration office (FRO) along with a digitalized control room with modern equipment.

Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar will inaugurate the modernised FRO on Sunday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (special branch) Ravindra Sengaonkar said that initially foreigners coming to the city, lost almost 7-10 days for registration,2-3 months for visa extension and almost a week for getting the return visa. “Moreover, there were no direct facilities to maintain the records and track the whereabouts of foreigners. Now,the whole system has been revamped and the work of registration and visa extension will be done in just 30 minutes. Even the character certificate will be issued within seven days,” he said.

“The passport registration office has also been modernised in view of the increased surge for registration of new passports.

“Hence, the time required for police verification has drastically reduced to mere seven days as against 3-4 months taken earlier. The applicants from Pune for new passport need not make rounds to the CP office for verification purpose,” he added. To keep the law and order situation under control and to provide proper guidance to citizens, the Control Room has also been modernised.
