This Koregaon Park restaurant offers a great ambience coupled with authentic North Indian food
With branches in Delhi,Mumbai and Bangalore, the Copper Chimney chain has patrons who swear by its ambience and food. So when their new branch opened at Koregaon Park last month,we were quite excited about what the acclaimed restaurant would bring to Pune’s food scene. The first thing we noticed was that within a week of its opening, the restaurant already had several patrons seated at the tables and had we not called ahead,we would have been hard-pressed to find a vacant table.
As we settled into our couched booth,we noticed that the restaurant’s clientele mostly consisted of older people and families. The ambience also seemed to have been planned accordingly, with overtones of the Mughal era. The decor was understated and tasteful, with heavy wood, burnished metal and reds on the walls and upholstery.
We began our meal with Copper Chimney’s signature Reshmi Kabab and Paneer Tikka. Signature dishes on the menu are marked with Copper Chimney’s logo on the side and make a helpful guide to someone visiting for the first time, like us. The Reshmi Kabab was everything it promised to be – it was soft, succulent and flavoured delicately with a hint of pepper. The Paneer Tikka on the other hand, was competent,at best.
We continued with signature dishes for the main course too and ordered the Murg Makhani along with butter naans with accompaniments Long Island Iced Tea and a Blue Breeze. The Murg Makhani was like a dream; the flavours were just right,we thought and we were pleasantly surprised when we discovered that the makhni was not sweet but had a salty, buttered taste instead. Our drinks however, couldn’t match up ; while the Long Island Iced Teas, were doused in alcohol, the blue breeze was too weak. The chef recommends the Malai Firni for dessert and also suggests patrons try the Dal Maharaja,Vegetable Kheema and the Gosht Badami. Our verdict? Copper Chimney is a great place for a family dinner when you want great North Indian food.
