Friends Snehal Kakade and Mahendra Pore always take out time from their busy professional lives and indulge in their passion for painting

“I don’t believe people when they say they don’t get time to do something they love due to their work. If something is important to you,you will find time to do it anyhow,” says Snehal Kakade,a graphic designer and a passionate artist who is holding his first exhibition, along with his friend Mahendra Pore,at Darpan Art Gallery.

Kakade graduated with a bachelors degree in Applied Art from Government School of Art,Aurangabad, while Pore,an art design manager by profession, graduated from Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya in Pune. Both of them struggle to paint regularly due to their professional commitments, but they have still managed to get together collections of their paintings for the exhibition.

Painting was always the first priority for Kakade. “My elder brother encouraged and supported me throughout. He believed in me and provided me with colours and paper when I was young so that I could paint. He even introduced me to many artists, which inspired me all the more to take up painting seriously.” His style is abstract and he uses both oil and acrylic paints.

On the other hand,Kakade’s style is more focused on the figurative. He had always been keen to learn about art,so he joined a six month-long course for landscape painting. Here he discovered that his interest lay only in figures and expression. “My paintings always have a female element in them. You can either say that one female is present in all my paintings or that the subject of my paintings is female,” he says.

Kakade admits that he was never interested in studies, and that all his attention was directed towards art. “During history periods,I always would sketch the faces of the people in my book. My history teacher never stopped me,even though she knew that I never paid attention in class,” he says.

They recently displayed their paintings in their respective offices and were happy with the response they got from their colleagues and others. This motivated them to hold an exhibition,so that people could further see and appreciate their work. Kakade is displaying around 12 paintings at the current exhibition, while Pore has about 20 paintings up. In future, they both are planning to hold many such exhibitions in different cities and display their talent in front of as many people as possible. “I don’t get time to do anything else,I still manage to go home and paint the whole night. It’s a stress-buster,I can paint for long and still feel fresh,” says Pore.
