Laleh Busheri,CEO of Prashanti Cancer Care Mission,an organisation working with cancer patients, recently won the Ray of Hope Award from the Asian Breast Cancer Congress for ‘rethinking ways in terms of cancer’. Busheri joined Prashanti Cancer Care as a volunteer way back in 1995. The centre, which was born out of unfulfilled desires of departed patients, brought together families, caregivers and doctors to serve cancer patients better. Till I visited Prashanti Cancer Care,my definition of pain was very different. I have realised the emotional and physical pain that these patients go through, Busheri said. From organising music therapy classes to free treatment and providing proper medication,Busheri and her team mates have been steadfast members in the battle against cancer. The centre is also set to launch a national level free online counseling programme and an online tumor board. It will allow patients to upload their case papers for a team of Prashanti Cancer Care doctors to render online advice on individual cases. Alternate medicine programmes where patients can also look at holistic treatments such as Reiki, homeopathy, and de-stressing techniques, are also a part of the centre’s work.
