To ease traffic congestion in Malad, BMC is set to construct a cable-stayed bridge over Malad creek linking Infinity mall with the lagoon road in Malvani — part of the civic body’s ambitious Rs 2,225-crore plan to construct two elevated roads, including the cable-stayed bridge, over Ramchandra nullah along MDP road to Marve road in Malad.
The project
– A key commercial hub in western suburbs, Malad is home to several IT hubs, commercial plazas and key film studios, leading to huge vehicular traffic in the area during peak hours.
– Earlier this year, BMC floated a tender to construct two bridges to relieve traffic congestion in the area. Project is categorised into two packages: First plan seeks to construct an elevated road over Ramchandra nullah to cut travel time between MDP road in Malad with Malad-Marve link road in western part. Second part of plan consists of a 792-metre-long bridge, which will commence near Infinity mall, which lies in the heart of Malad, go along Link road and land at Lagoon road, also known as Mahakali road, in Malvani.
– Bridge connecting Link road to Malvani will pass over Malad creek, cutting down travel time for commuters.

Official-speak
“The two bridges will criss-cross with one moving in east-west direction and the other — elevated road — in north-south direction. Together, the bridges will ease traffic movement in western suburbs. Tender for the project was floated in October and we are currently evaluating the bids. Last week, we opened Packet C of the tender for assessment. As project passes over ecologically sensitive zones, construction will start after obtaining NOCs and permissions from High Court — Senior official.
