They come across as a stark and refreshing contrast from the regular, pointless, clothing designs, that one usually associates fashion designers with. Combining aesthetic brilliance along with a sharp sense of functionality and modernity,is what the creations of ace designer Manish Arora represent,to both-The western world and their eastern counterparts.

“Fashion to me is not about having a highly developed taste for the bizarre but it is something that enables a person to boost his or her confidence and poise through a highly developed sense of what kind of outfits make that person look good and natural,” he says about his tryst with fashion. Arora who displayed his collection in the city for the first time,at the 10th edition of the Mercedes Benz Golf Tournament Awards ceremony, held at the Corinthian Club on Saturday feels that the only reason as to why the association between, the German luxury car maker and his designs have clicked,is because they both believe in blending traditionalistic attitudes with modern functionality. Speaking about his association with the brand Arora says,“Take for instance the cars made by them (Mercedes Benz),or their long standing tryst with fashion, and what does one see? We see a very simple fact. How can something so beautiful be created so simply. Probably that is a reason why my designs and their refined taste for the best, have clicked instantly.”

Known for his liberal use of vibrant colour schemes and floral designs, this was the last of the five cities that he toured along with ‘Zee Germans’. “The show basically has had a total of 42 outfits on display, that were among the best outfits showcased by me at the last six international fashion weeks. The theme of the show is called ‘Fascination’ and is a confluence of the artistic and engineering genius of the brand and the passion for creating pure attraction evoking, designs,” says the ace outfitter.

The collection showcased Arora’s designs that had his traditional use of colours to emphasise his love for the same. Most of the designs showcased had been shown for the first time in India,so according to Arora,it was a curtain raiser of sorts for many more such designs to come. “The collection displays my designs which comprise of not only elaborate floral patterns but also a lot of delicate and intricate embroidery work. Outside of that the collection has embellishments, sequin work, hand embroidered motifs light patterns all interspersed with vivid colours and graphic art done on a variety of fabrics like felt, silk, leather, and satin,” he says speaking about the clothes showcased at the collection.

While Arora maintains that the western world which clearly paves the way,as far as the world of fashion is concerned, they do not dictate fashion and style. “It’s a wrong,pre-conceived notion that the western world dictates the style of the season, which are blatantly accepted by the world. Style for me is a personal choice, about what makes a person feel comfortable under his or her own skin,” he says adding,“The only thing however that can be said about Western designers is the fact that they have clearly been in the business for over a century while Indian fashion,is still in its days of infancy and has a long road ahead to travel on.”

While the showcase of fashion designer Manish Arora’s,collection the ‘Fascination Collection’ was definitely the highlight of the evening, the showstopper for the event was an unlikely surprise-The new Mercedes E-Class Coupe. The blazing white four-seater two-door sedan had the audiences raving about the car just as much as they were about Arora’s designs. Compared by actress Suchitra Pillai the evening was interspersed with the awards ceremony,of the Indian round of the 10th Edition of the Mercedes Benz Golf Tournament. The winners of the regional rounds from the ten cities of Kolkata Ahmedabad,Mumbai,Hyderabad,Delhi,Chennai,Bangalore,Pune Mumbai and Cochin, battled it out for the final spot to represent the national team at the Oxford Golf and Country Club in the city. KR Amin from Bangalore,Vikas Anand and Ashish Gupta from Delhi were the final winners chosen to represent India along with the other 51 countries at the finals of the tournament in Stuttgart in Germany. Actress Kim Sharma,in addition to the E-Class Coupe was the showstopper for the evening. Some of the dignitaries present for the event included Puneet Chaddha MD and Head Commercial Banking HSBC India,Wilfried Aulbur,MD and CEO,Mercedes-Benz India and golfer Gagandeep Bhullar. Some of the designs exhibited by Arora, included short summer dress, long flowing gowns, with colourful patterns embroidered on them delicately. The glittering event was a classical fusion of fashion, cars and indulgence sprinkled with the prize distribution ceremony of the Golf Tournament
