Second-year engineering students of the affiliated colleges of University of Pune, who failed to clear their examinations, have demanded a carry-on admission to third year in the wake of the revised syllabi being introduced for engineering courses.
United under Pune university engineering students action committee for carry-on,students on Thursday met Vice-Chancellor Wasudeo Gade to put forth their demand for carry-on.
Addressing mediapersons before visiting Gade,Siddheshwar Patil,a student leader, said it was unjust to expect failed second-year engineering students to adopt the new syllabus. We do not have any foundation to learn the revised course structure, since there is much difference between the old and revised syllabi. Therefore, the university should grant us carry-on,considering our academic interest, he said.
Another student,Pankaj Bhalerao, said some other public universities in Maharashtra had offered relief to failed students by introducing carry-on facility.
Youth activist Deepak Nagpure said the number of failed second-year engineering students was more than 8,000. Students will resort to agitation if their demand is not met, he said.
Gade was not available for comment.
