College of Military Engineering (CME) in association with PCMC has set up exclusive Aadhaar Centres to promote the Unique ID card scheme. This will facilitate the staff and residents of CME to enroll themselves for the Aadhaar Scheme without having to travel much. CME has as many as 9,500 people,including officers,subordinate personnel,civilian staff and administrative support staff. The work at the centre started on August 14 and as per estimates by Aadhaar executives,the work is likely to be completed within a month.
Manmohan Singh takes over as new VRDE chief
Manmohan Singh has taken over the charge as director,Vehicles Research & Development Establishment (VRDE),Ahmednagar. He replaced Dr C P Ramanarayanan who has been posted to Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE),Bangalore. VRDE is a premier laboratory of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO),engaged in research and development of Tracked and wheeled vehicles for the Defence Forces. Manmohan Singh was associated with the design and development of ground support vehicles for IGMDP and Agni Programme for 26 years. He was awarded the 2011 DRDO scientist of the year award.
Lecture on Armys role in countering insurgency
Col (retd) V Y Gidh will deliver a lecture on The role of the Indian Army in counter insurgency operations in the Northeast on August 29 at 11.30 am. The event has been organised by the Centre for Advanced Strategic Studies (CASS) and will take place at the Deccan Education Societys Technical Institute Auditorium near IMDR near Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics. The event will be chaired by Lt Gen (retd) D B Shekatkar.
Air Commodore (retd) Arun Joshi passes away
Air Commodore (retd) Arun Joshi,an alumnus of the Air Force Academy,Secunderabad,passed away on August 13. He was commissioned into the education wing of the Indian Air Force in 1965. During his 30 years of service,he was awarded with the chief of Air Staff commendations many times. Joshi,who retired in 1995 was an active member of the Rotary Club post retirement. In accordance with his wishes,his eyes and body were donated to Ruby Hall Clinic and B J Medical College respectively.
