Excise raid during party at pub in Pune’s Viman Nagar, items worth over Rs 3.6 lakh seized

The Maharashtra excise department has formed 21 flying squads to take action against illegal liquor parties in Pune.

The Maharashtra excise department raided an alleged illegal night party at The Noir pub in Viman Nagar area of Pune city in the early hours of Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Atul Kanade, Superintendent of the State Excise Department, Pune, raided the pub on Airport Road around 5 am.

Kanada said, “A party was going on at the pub illegally. Legal action was taken against 52 persons found at the party. They included 42 men and women, who participated in the party. An offence was lodged against ten managers of the pub. Of them, two managers have been remanded to judicial custody by a court”

“Search is on for the main accused, Amarjeet Singh, the pub owner,” said Kanade.

The state excise department team has seized furniture, a sound system, a computer, a laptop, about 178 foreign liquor bottles, and other items, all worth Rs 3.67 lakh, during the raid at the pub.

In view of several night parties planned for the New Year Celebration, the state excise department has formed 21 flying squads to take action against illegal liquor parties in the city.
