EV charging stations of MSEDCL to be powered by solar energy

Pune zone has 18 EV charging stations run by MSEDCL – and as part of the project, the EV charging station at Ganeshkhind will be powered by solar energy.

The electric vehicle charging stations of MSEDCL in the state will now be powered by solar power plants. The first project to supply power to an electric vehicle charging station through green energy will be implemented at Ganeshkhind in Pune.

Pune zone has 18 EV charging stations run by MSEDCL – and as part of the project, the EV charging station at Ganeshkhind will be powered by solar energy. Prasad Reshme, Director (Project) of Solar Power project, inspected the Ganeshkhind EV charging station premises.

For the power supply of the charging stations, a solar project will be set up in the same area to generate ‘green energy’, an official spokesperson said.

MSEDCL has set up charging stations for electric vehicles on the premises of several sub-centres and administrative buildings. In this, charging stations for electric vehicles have been operationalised at a total of 18 places in urban and rural areas in Pune circle. To supply electricity to this charging station from green energy, it is now planned to set up a solar power plant on the building or open space next to the charging station.

The work of 60 KW solar power project on the roof of ‘Prakash Bhavan’ building in Ganeshkhind has started. Nearly 7, 200 units of electricity generated per month from this project will be supplied to the electric vehicle charging station in the ‘Prakash Bhavan’ area.

Rajendra Pawar, Chief Engineer, Pune Circle said, ‘work is on to prepare a proposal to supply electricity from green energy to the charging station commissioned by MSEDCL under Pune Circle. Efforts are being made to supply power to as many as 18 charging stations through green energy through solar power projects.’
