Panel to study external student system
*The University of Pune has finally formed a three-member committee to look into problems of various colleges with regard to external students. The vice-chancellor signed the file and selected three members to visit the colleges and try to come up with solutions.
Director of the Board of Colleges and University Development,(BCUD),WN Gade,said,The committee has been formed. However,names of members are confidential. Any changes to be made in the system,will only be brought into effect from the next academic year.
A missive to Loyola School
* Pune Municipal Corporations (PMC) education board chief Ramchandra Jadhav on Wednesday sent a letter to the Loyola School questioning the probity of asking parents to pay Rs 5,000 each as building fund.
This was after parents complained to Jadhav. He said,Collecting money from parents like this is illegal. If any parent decides to donate a certain amount,that is different. We have sent a letter to the school asking them to refund money they have taken from parents.
Olympiad talk at AV Hall
* Medal-winner of three International Olympiads,Sarthak Chandra,will give a talk on How to achieve success in International Earth Sciences,Junior Science and Astronomy Olympiads.The audio-visual presentation will be based on his experiences and will provide tips to students on the right preparation for these olympiads. The event has been organised at AV Hall,MES Garware College Library building,Karve Road,Pune on Sunday,May 1,from 9.30 am.
Research good,confidence needed
* Indian research students have innovative ideas and infrastructure back-up. But they lack confidence. Hence their research does not reach international level, said RK Shevgaonkar,Vice-Chancellor,University of Pune,while delivering the keynote address at e-PGCON-2011 ( e-Post Graduate Conference) organised by UoP in association with Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering,MIT,Pune. WN Gade,AS Padalkar and DS Bormane gave a talk on post graduate and doctoral research in Engineering and Electronics.
AIEEE centre name change
* The name of Army School,Kirkee,near Bombay Engineering Group (BEG) on Deccan College Road,has recently been changed to Army Public School (APS),Kirkee. Students allotted the school as the exam centre for the All India Engineering Entrance Exam (AIEEE) on May 1,have been urged by school authorities to take note of the change of name. Other details related to the exam centre and its address remain unchanged.
