Kids XI and Friends Union B notched up easy wins in the semifinals of the Barclays Hockey League organised by the Maharashtra Hockey Association. The matches were played at the Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium,PCMC Polygrass Ground.
In the first match of the day,Kids XI defeated Rovers Academy 2-0. Kids XI started well and put pressure on the opposition goal right from the start. They created a couple of good opportunities to score in the first ten minutes but failed to capitalise. They continued to pass the ball well and held the majority of the possession. Rovers Academy found it difficult to get back into the game and were just chasing shadows. They,however,hung on and the half ended 0-0.
The Kids side were rewarded the 33rd minute when Sachin Sawant was put in on goal by Dheeraj Chauhan. Sachin scored and gave his team a much-needed lead. The opposition were completely out of the game when in the 36th minute,Kids XI striker Ajinkya Karadale converted a penalty corner and gave his team a comfortable two-goal cushion. Kids XI were cruising at this stage and took total control over the game.
On the other hand,Rovers were stuck in their own half and hardly launched any attacks of their own.
In the second match of the day,Friends union B defeated Vikram Pillay Academy B 3-2 in the penalty shoot out after the match ended goalless in regulation time. Both teams attacked each others goal with gusto but did not manage to get the breakthrough. After 60 minutes of constant action produced no goal,the game went into penalties.
Sanjay Mahaveer,Shivam Thakur and Mayur Thakur scored for Friends union club in the penalty shot out while Ashutosh Hinge and Raazik Sheikh managed to score for Vikram Pillay Academy. Kids XI will now face Friend Union Club in the final to be held on Saturday.
