An electric car caught fire near Reliance Mart at Katraj junction on Sunday evening. No casualties were reported in the incident.
Fire officer Sanjay Ramteke of Pune Fire Brigade said a man was driving the car with his mother Vidya Ravindra Munot in the passenger seat.

They noticed smoke rising from the engine around 5.45 pm. They immediately stopped the car on the road side, and scrambled out of the vehicle for their safety. Meanwhile, flames began to engulf the car.

Officer Ramteke said the cause of fire was not confirmed, but prima-facie, a short circuit in the car’s engine could be the probable cause.
