The Income Tax (I-T) department of Pune will launch a drive to clear pending refund claims in July.

R K Roye, chief commissioner,Income Tax,Pune, said the I-T offices in the region will launch a ‘refund, rectification and grievance redressal’ drive next month. During the drive,I-T officers will clear pending applications and requests for correction in demand as intimated by the Central Processing Centre (CPC),Bangalore.

“The tax payers or their representatives will have to bring the details of their applications to the commissioner of income tax concerned,” an I-T official said.

Though the drive will end on July 15,those whose applications are still pending can approach the chief commissioner of Income Tax.

An official said information on taxes due has already been uploaded on the CPC website. Cases of refund will be taken up on the basis of this data.

He added that though they will consult manual records at various offices, the tax refund process will be faster as majority of the cases in the city are filed online.

For the last three years there has been a consistent increase in both the corporate and income tax refunds in Pune region, officials said. While the I-T and corporate tax (CT) refund was Rs 958 and Rs 412 crore respectively in 2009-10,there was a sizeable jump in both. The I-T and CT refunds were Rs 1,250 crore and Rs 887 crore respectively in 2010-11 and Rs 1,643 crore and 1,004 crore respectively in 2011-2012.
