Dr Vinayak Kale reinstated as dean of BJMC hospital in Pune

Dr Kale was awaiting orders from the state medical education department after the Bombay High Court had upheld the Maharashtra Administrative Tribunal order to reinstate him.

“Pending the final order of the Bombay High Court, Dr Kale has been allowed to take charge temporarily,” the order said.

He was the dean at the BJMC hospital for nine months, from April 2022 to January 2023, before being transferred as director-professor at Maharashtra Institute of Mental Health.

Dr Kale had challenged the transfer in the Maharashtra Administrative Tribunal. Dr Sanjeev Thakur, who formerly headed the Dr Vaishampayan Smriti Government Medical College at Solapur, was appointed dean in the meantime.

Dr Thakur has now been removed from the post after the state had prima facie found negligence on the part of hospital authorities in the sensational escape of drug racketeer Lalit Patil from the prisoner’s ward on October 2.

In the interim, Dr Shrinivas Shintre, head of the department of trauma and professor of orthopaedics, held additional charge as the dean of the BJMC hospital.
