With several people in the rural parts of the district complaining of not getting their Aadhaar cards under the Unique Identification Number (UID) scheme of the central government, district collector Vikas Deshmukh said he would personally communicate the delay to the agencies.

At present, there are 12.82 lakh cards issued under UID in rural parts of the district. Three new agencies — Glowdyne,Karvy and Techsmart — have been appointed by the state for rural areas as well as the cantonment areas to speed up the work in the district, said Deshmukh.

The district administration has started 138 centres across 13 talukas to help citizens get UID. However, progress for registrations has been slow. The district administration has set a target to increase the participation by at least 50 per cent by June.

Recently a special centre was started at the office of the district collector for revenue officials. Pune administration started issuing of UIDs in February.

With three new agencies being roped in,the administration is expecting the project would pick up momentum. The residents have to carry their ID proof, residential and birth date proofs.
