Determining additional costs: NGO objects to MSEDCL proposal

The MSEDCL has explored its own options of power purchase and supply to ensure zero loadshedding in the city and other areas.

The MSEDCL has explored its own options of power purchase and supply to ensure zero loadshedding in the city and other areas. While the petition will be heard on November 5,city-based Sajag Grahak Manch has made several suggestions and raised objections to the MSEDCL’s petition for determination of additional cost as additional supply charge for withdrawal of loadshedding.

The Pune zero loadshedding model has been functional for three years. Residential consumers consuming electricity to the tune of 300 units per month were excluded from payment of additional supply charge. But in the MSEDCL’s proposed model there is no such exemption to any domestic consumers except the ones in BPL category.

Any additional supply charge on commercial and industrial consumers gets passed on to the domestic consumers and hence if they are also charged additional supply charge then it will be a double burden for them. Vivek Velankar, president of the Sajag Grahak Manch,in their suggestions have demanded that at least the domestic consumers with consumption less than 200 units per month should be excluded from additional supply charge . When the industrial consumers on express feeders have been levied additional supply charge,Velankar questioned the reason as to they have been excluded in current petition They should also be included for calculation of additional supply charge,a statement issued here said. The Manch has suggested that the power purchse is done by MSEDCL themselves in order to have better control over power purchase and have maximum transparency. Further an independant audit agency should be appointed for monitoring power purchase process, the Manch suggested.
