Actor Suresh Menon swears by the desi taste of Wadapavs in Pune

Though relatives bring him to Pune, what keeps him here is ‘mind-boggling wadapavs’. To actor Suresh Menon, anything served in Pune is ghar ka khana. From German Bakery, which has been his favorite hangout point to J J Garden wadapav stall – Menon is game for food trips to Pune during any given season.

“I have a couple of relatives in Pune, but I make sure that I go and enjoy some special Puneri wadapavs and double omlettes on various places in Pune. I feel it’s the city itself that makes the food so special. From authentic Maharashtrian thali in any food joint to brownies and cakes at German Bakery,I make sure I had every kind of food when in Pune,” says Menon.

Married to a Gujarati,Menon had an opportunity to get introduced to authentic Gujarati food. “Kerala food has been my favorite and Gujarati has to be my favorite,” he jokes adding,“When food can bring me to Pune, how can I not like any kind of food.”

As far as health is concerned,Menon feels that heart and not seasons should tell us what to eat. “I don’t plan my summer or winter food. I feel workouts are important and not killing one’s desire to eat something good. Temperatures or weather doesn’t tells us what to eat. Our mind or heart tells,so we should listen to our mind, because that is asking for something that we and our body wants. Going by temperature,we will end up having a very strict food routine, which will gradually become a tough rule to follow and eventually we would hate whatever we eat,” he adds.

Menon confesses that he has got sweet tooth and loves having all Indian and Western sweet dishes. “I have already told you about my love for cakes and brownies. I can also have gulab jamuns, pedha, different kinds of halwas and not to forget the payasam from our kitchen. I even don’t mind junk like pizza, which is irresistible,” smiles he.

While Menon keeps away from experiments and follows his mind, his wife doesn’t mind experimenting at different places. “Even if I go abroad,I have things like omelette, but my wife keeps trying local cuisine. I appreciate her courage to try different cuisine,” he says.
