Watch your favourite cricketers in action, this time in a 3D multiplex
Sachin hits a six and the ball comes zooming your way. You move back, only to realise its just an illusion. Thats 3D reality for you. Soon you can watch your favourite IPL matches in 3D at cinema theatres near you. Scrabble Entertainment India is bringing this innovation to more than 75 theatres in 20 cities across the country.
For the first time, the semi finals and the finals of IPL will be screened using 3D technology on the big screen in Pune. Cricket is a religion in our country and we will provide the audiences the experience of being on the field, says Sunil Khatura of Scrabble Entertainment. After James Camerons Avatar,3D technology has suddenly been catapulted to great heights. Curiosity fueled with increased interest has led entertainment companies to take note of this advancement. In 2010,the six major studios have promised 20 releases by the end of the year.
Talking about the technology being used Khatura says,We are roping in US based 3Ality Digital, their crew will shoot the match using special 3D cameras. We are looking at putting cameras at eight positions to cover the entire ground.
The cricket enthusiasts are all excited about watching their favourite cricketers in a 3D effect and Kartick Jagtap, cricket enthusiast says,I read about sports in 3D few months back and was really hoping the technology comes to India. Now that it is happening in my city,I do not mind spending a few extra bucks to view it.
Clearing out the misconception that most of us have about 3D technology,Khatura says,People think in a 3D,everything should come flying onto your face. But in reality this technology is about creating depth and giving the right dimension. Good depth is created when one shoots the event using 3D cameras. That is probably the difference between an Avatar and a poorly done Clash of the Titans. Gyan Vardhan,22,student,says,Watching these matches would be more or less like watching a 3D movie. I think the experience will be better than watching it live from the stadium.
The future definitely looks bright for 3D; in the next five years as it may also enter the home entertainment sector. It is revolutionising the way we view films and now even sports. In the next one year we want to make this experience richer. The next step could be screening FIFA World cup in 3D or even F1 racing, adds Khatura.
