PUNE: INS Shivaji undertook a cleanliness drive at Bhushi Dam and Shivaji Lake between 9 am to 12 noon on Saturday to mark World Environment Day. The effort was a part of the establishments commitment towards Clean and Green Lonavla,a press release issued by INS Shivaji stated. The cleaning up activity at Bhushi Dam was done by the personnel of INS Shivaji with assistance from the Lonavla Municipal Corporation and Lonavla Police. Students of Balgram,Kendriya Vidyalaya,members of Sea Cadet Corps and National Cadet Corps also took part in the drive. Officers,sailors,trainees,civilians,staff and families planted over 200 saplings in and around the naval base. The surroundings of Bhushi Dam were cleared of non-biodegradable waste,taking extra care to cause no damage to the flora and fauna of the area,the release also read.

PUNE: Around 22 students from Akhnoor,Jammu & Kashmir witnessed the passing out parade of the National Defence Academy. The students are on a 12-day tour as part of Armys Op Sadbhavana programme and have visited the film city,Water kingdom,Essel World,Gateway of India. The trip has filled confidence in me and now I want to do something good to make a difference, said Sidhant Sharma,one of the students. Rahul Datt,a teacher said,They all come from remote and far-flung areas and had never even seen train in their lives before coming for this trip. The motto of the programme is to motivate them to do well in their lives. A Press Information bureau,Ministry of Defence press releases quoted another teacher Pradeep Kumar,The Army has helped us a lot in our villages in Akhnoor area. They have constructed roads,provided computers and other study materials for the schools.
