Pune: 4 women injured as structure for Dahi Handi event collapses

Offence has been lodged against four office bearers of Shrikrushna Mandal, who had organised the Dahi handi celebration.

An iron structure erected for fixing the light and sound system for a Dahi Handi celebration in Ganesh Peth area collapsed, injuring four elderly women on Thursday.

Police have identified the injured women as Manda Changediya (67), Nirmaladevi Punamiya (69), Kevalchand Solanki (66) and Tarabai Solanki (64).

Offence has been lodged against four office bearers of Shrikrushna Mandal, who had organised the Dahi handi celebration. A first information report (FIR) was lodged against them at the Faraskhana police station under sections 337, 338, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.

Police said the Shrikrushna Tarun Mandal had erected a structure made of iron pipes to fix the light and sound system for Dahi handi festival near the “Sadadi Sadan” building at Pangu Ali in Ganesh Peth on Thursday morning.

Around 10.30 am, the structure collapsed and fell on four women. Police said the injured women were admitted to a hospital for treatment.
