After a suspect in a dacoity case managed to escape from Bundgarden police custody on Saturday morning,police sources claim they have concrete inputs about his.
Rajesh Papul (22) alias chor Raja had a case registered against him at Swargate police station under sections 399 and 402 of Indian Penal Code for dacoity and assembling for dacoity.
Papul was kept in Bund Garden police station as the crime branch,which was investigating a case against him,did not have its own lock-up.
On Saturday morning,Papul was brought out of the lock up as he wanted to go to the toilet. Before the constable could lock the door again,Papul pushed him and escaped. A police inspector with the crime branch chased Papul but failed to nab him.
Suhas Nadgauda,senior police inspector with Bundgarden police station,said,We are yet to find Papul. The search operation is on with maximum efforts. A police officer with Pune police informed that they have got concrete information as to where the suspect could have gone.
Mohammed Makandar,assistant commissioner of police for Cantonment zone,who is inquiring the matter informed,said,there is tangible output as of now. We have sent out teams,some outside Pune city and some of within the city.
After detailed inquiry,we will take action against the guards on duty as it was their responsibility to keep an eye on the suspect, Makandar said.
Constable S N Sawant,one of the three policemen who were guarding the lockup,had registered a complaint under section 224 of the Indian Penal Code against Papul for escaping from the official custody of police.
