Additional sessions judge DR Mahajan the other day rejected lawyer Vijay Dabhade’s bail application in the murder case of RTI activist Satish Shetty. Mahajan had earlier cancelled the interim bail granted to Dabhade.

Defence lawyers Sudhir Shah and Ravindra Petkar had sought Dabhade’s bail, citing that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had not brought in any new evidence against him. Special public prosecutor P Arun opposed the bail plea on grounds that there was sufficient evidence against Dabhade. Dabhade had moved two bail pleas earlier. The court had rejected his bail application moved after his arrest in January, following which he had applied for bail on medical grounds, which was granted by additional sessions judge US Thakare in August. Dhabhade had to undergo a hernia operation.

Shetty had run a campaign against Dabhade after finding that his buildings were located on land belonging to Railways. He was murdered in January this year. The CBI had taken over the murder case in June following a demand from Shetty’s brother Sandip Shetty.
