This travelling German film festival will kick off in the city next month
The storyline sounds similar to one of our Bollywood masala movies. So,on November 7,when German film Rock It will be screened as part of the Gen Next 3.0 FilmFest, the city audience will easily connect to it. Rock It is about an exceptionally gifted pianist,15 year-old Julia, who falls in love with Nick, the cool member of the band Rock It. To audition for his band, she takes on a fake name and identity. What follows is a realisation that the most important thing is to find out who you really are. The film, along with two other short films – The Wild Boys 5- Beyond the Horizon and The Lord of the Thieves – will be screened at the National Film Archives of India (NFAI). This travelling film festival is in its third edition now and will kickstart in Pune and then head to other venues in South Asia, including Islamabad,Dhaka,Hyderabad,Colombo and Bengaluru.
Held in collaboration with Max Mueller Bhavan and NFAI,the film fest is themed on ‘adventure’. Three new animation films will also be showcased. The festival also marks what Max Mueller calls the ‘learn through multimedia’ initiative.
Open for all, this festival will see support from the Partner Schools (PASCH). The PASCH programme, initiated by the German government,is a network of schools that teach German as a foreign language. PASCH Pune consists of around nine schools. Shares Janaki Waldraff,PASCH head,Pune,”The festival offers many more dimensions than what is visible. We started teacher training for the faculty so that they can use the medium of films to teach the language. This event will train students to understand the cultural scenario in Germany. In that sense, there are many take-aways from an event like this.” Post the festival, students from PASCH will work on activities that will help them relate characters and events from the films to understand the culture and history of Germany better. The event will also have quizzes along with the films.
(Gen Next 3.0 FilmFest will be held between November 7-9 at NFAI from 3 pm to 6 pm)
