A criminal on police records allegedly confined a police sub-inspector,who had visited him as part of an inquiry into a case,to a room,clicked his photographs with a woman and later threatened to lodge a rape complaint against him.
Vishrantwadi police said the incident took place on Wednesday evening when complainant Laxman Bhutambare (55),a sub-inspector with Khadki police station,went to the residence of suspect Prakash Lanke.
Investigating officer inspector (crime) P B Gofane,said,Bhutambare had visited Lanke to inquire about a complaint of abetment to suicide against him. Lanke called him to a room and started clicking his photographs with an unidentified woman who was already sitting there. He threatened to register a rape case against him and even called up the police control room complaining that a drunk police officer was trying to rape a woman.
Gofane added,The PSI registered a complaint after he got out from there. We verified the allegations and found that he wasnt drunk and was being targeted .
Police have arrested Lanke and have registered a case against him under Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharging his duty),342 (wrongful confinement),506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. Police are yet to identify the woman.
