891 cases settled in Lok Nyayalaya
* The Pune District Legal Services Authority (PDLSA) settled a total of 891 cases,out of the 3639 cases put up in Lok Nyayalaya held last week. Cases of cheque bounce,negotiable instruments act,compoundable offences and injunction and declaration civil suits were put up before the Lok Nyayalaya panels. I am satisfied with the number of cases settled,as,in the normal course,it would have taken them at least three years to settle, said Rahul Bhosale,member secretary of PDLSA. Around 3070 cases were settled in Shivajinagar court,446 in Khadki and 123 in the Pune Cantonment court.
50 para-legals given identity cards
* Around 50 para-legals including professions,representatives of NGOs,law students and professors,social work students,lawyers and even journalists were issued para-legal identity cards by Pune District Legal Services Authority (PDLSA) last week,after the 50 persons completed the newly introduced para-legal course. This is the first course of this kind run for the common public by Legal Services Authority,said member secretary of PDLSA Rahul Bhosale. The training covers 18 basic acts and laws like the criminal and civil procedure code,Indian penal Code,Consumer Protection Act,Domestic Violence Act,Hindu Marriage and Succession Act,Special Marriage Act,Negotiable Instruments Act,Stamp Act,Dory Law and so on. These 50 volunteers are expected to impart legal knowledge to needy persons and maintain a register that will be evaluated by the PDLSA officers once in three months. The next batch of 50 persons begins from June.
Talathi files for anticipatory bail
* Talathi of Lohegaon Balbhim Rama Gaikwad has applied for anticipatory bail last week. He has been accused of conspiring with Kevin Pinto,builder Harish Milani,and defense estates officer (retd) Sewak Nayyar for falsely claiming about 69 acres of Defence land worth Rs 800 core at Lohegaon. The court will decide on the application along with that of absconding accused Zarib Khan,on May 10.
Cops discharge application rejected
* The court of special judge S N Sardesai rejected the discharge applications of police inspector Dattatraya Krishnaji Ghule and sub inspector Hitendra Manohar Vichare in the fake stamp paper case on Saturday. CBI special public prosecutor Pradip Gharat said,The policemen had allegedly received pecuniary benefit from Telgi and his rivals Hemant Dubey and George Hiwale who were also involved in printing and circulating counterfeit stamp papers and stamps. The CBI had arrested in 2004.
