Waiting list for para-legal training
The three-month para-legal training course of Pune District Legal Services Authority (PDLSA) has a waiting list of around 150 students. The course,an introduction of various laws and acts such as Domestic Violence Act,Consumer Rights Protection Act,Hindu Marriage Act,Civil and Criminal procedure Code and so on,is free. Those who pass the course get an identity card from the PDLSA and are expected to impart the legal knowledge to the needy. After the completion of two batches of 50 students,PDLSA will now start enrolling 100 students from the next batch that begins from August,said member secretary of PDLSA V K Kadam.
Two convicted in extortion case
Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) S M Padolikar recently sentenced Aslam Hussain Khan (21) of Yerawada,to two years rigorous imprisonment and fined him Rs 1,000 in an extortion case. Khan has a criminal record and has property and bodily offences registered against him. On October 7,2010,Khan had threatened Ganesh Mingale (21) of Yerawada with a sword in the presence of his friends and had demanded Rs 500 from him to buy liquor. Mingale gave him Rs 200,whereupon Khan threatened to kill Mingale if he did not give him Rs 300 more. After Mingale registered a complaint,Khan was arrested by the Yerawada police. Assistant public prosecutor Kiran Bendhbar examined six witnesses.
Second All-India Bar Exam on July 24
The second All-India Bar exam (AIBE) conducted by the Bar Council of India is scheduled on July 24,after it wa spostponed from June 26. Fresh advocates have to clear this exam to be able to practice in any Indian court. Candidates who could not appear for the maiden exam that took place on March 6 and fresh candidates may apply for this exam.
