No teacher,student moves consumer court

Swapnil Shrimant Waghmare from Solapur has moved the Pune district consumer disputes redressal forum (consumer court) against Institute of Hardware Technology,Pune branch,for not providing teaching and other services despite paying Rs 22,300 fees. It is a Bangalore-based institute with a branch in Pune. Waghmare had taken admission in July 2008 in the ‘SUN Solaris’ branch of hardware technology. He had paid the fees before the stated deadline. However,the institute had conveyed that since they were not able to provide teaching facilities in Pune,Waghmare must go to Mumbai for the course. However,since it was not possible for Waghmare to go to Mumbai and no intimation was given during admission that he might have to go Mumbai,Waghmare filed the complaint.

Bail for accused who duped 350

A magistrate court granted bail to one Rajendra Murudkar (44) arrested for allegedly duping at least 350 people of more than Rs 1.62 crore in 2009-10 on the pretext of giving them flats under Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) scheme. Murudkar was granted bail as the police had failed to file a chargesheet against him within the stipulated time limit of 60 days. The court of judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) S B Deore ordered the release of Murudkar against personal bond of Rs 10 lakh and surety of Rs 15,000.

Bail for students held for DL forgery

The court of judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) Swarup Bose granted bail to two MBA students who were held for downloading a girl’s driving licence from the RTO website and uning it to purchase as many as 100 SIM cards. The defence lawyers submitted that Ravishkumar Baliram Prasad (28) and Raviprakash Divakarprasad Patel (24) were in police custody since their arrest on April 8 and that the Anti-Terrorism Squad had completed their investigation and their further detention was not required. Assistant public prosecutor A V Ausekar opposed the bail plea on the ground that the duo were not permanent residents of Pune and were involved in a serious offence. However,the court upheld the defense lawyers’s plea and ordered their release on bail on furnishing sureties of Rs 10,000 each.

Hiranandani appeal hearing deferred to May 3

A sessions court deferred the hearing on Niranjan and Kamal Hiranandani’s plea to cancel the lower court’s order to stop work at their upcoming power project site at Wadgaon Maval. A magistrate court at Wadgaon Maval had granted bail to the Hiranandani couple on the condition to stop work at the project. The couple had challenged that a magistrate court cannot impose special bail conditions in any offence for which the maximum punishment would be for seven years or less. They had filed their plea in the Pune sessions court last month. The Hirandani couple,their 25-year-old son Darshan,along with four persons. were booked for converting their residential project into 2,500-MW power project by acquiring environment clearance allegedly by dubious means.
