The Pune police have launched a search for two persons associated with the dreaded Nilesh Ghaiwal gang for allegedly opening fire on Vijay Ganesh Thombre (31) of Jay Bhavani Nagar,Kothrud,with the intention of murdering him and putting fear in the minds of local residents on Wednesday.
The suspects include Nilesh Hiraman Gawde of Shastri Nagar,Kothrud,and Nilesh Shripati Shinde of Kelewadi,Kothrud. Thombre lodged the complaint of attempt to murder against the duo at the Kothrud police station.
Senior police inspector Chandrakant Ghodke of Kothrud police station said Gawde is a history-sheeter. He was earlier booked in five crime cases and externed from the city limits. His externment term ended on September 9.
Police said complainant Thombre and Gawde were old friends. They worked together at the Sangharsha Mitra mandal in Jay Bhavani Nagar. But some dispute had soured their relations for the last four years.
Around 1.30 am on Wednesday,Thombre was dining with friends near PMC School in Jay Bhavani Nagar when Gawde and Shinde came on a motorcycle. Gawde had an argument with Thombre after which he pulled out a pistol and fired a bullet in air. He also fired a bullet at Thombre which missed him by a whisker and then escaped,police said.
