While the festival saw filmmakers showcase films on animal conservation through a broad range of topics well known BBC reporter, author, and conservationist Paul Rose who was in the city for the Vasundhara Film Festival took his time out to not only educate people on various burning environmental issues, but also presented an elaborate and immensely informative presentation on how human activities causes disturbance to the other creatures of the planet

Speaking at an interaction at the Patrakar Bhavan in the city Rose says “We,human beings are using power driven gizmos, which erodes ice caps and glaciers. This will eventually lead us towards a climatic catastrophe. This ruthless punishment that is being bestowed upon the planet will cause the climate to change in such drastic ways that it will destroy the flora and fauna of the planet”.

Through the presentation Rose threw light on his ongoing project with the BBC,entitled BBC-Our Ocean. He spoke about the rising level of seawater and its fatal repercussions on the creatures as well as the plants of the deep, which would eventually have a huge impact on the planet

Stressing out on the biodiversity and global warming Rose explains,“Extinction is a ardently debated, but a feebly understood topic in science. The same goes for climate change. When scientists try to foretell the impact of global change on future biodiversity levels, the results are contentious,to say the least.” While some argue that species have managed to survive worse climate change in the past and that current threats to biodiversity are overstated,Rose adds that many biologists say the impacts of climate change and resulting shifts in rainfall, temperature, sea levels, ecosystem composition, and food availability will have significant effects on global species richness. He adds,“Most mass extinctions were caused by gradual climate change”.

While,a lot of movies related to environmental issues have already been showcased at fourth Vasundhara Film Festival in the city, the festival has undoubtedly tried to put the environmental issues on everyone’s radar. The closing ceremony,on Sunday showcased Shekhar Dattatri’s movie based on tiger conservation entitled,‘The truth about tigers’ which is a result of timeless work done by various tiger experts all over the world.
