Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Thursday promised action against the persons who waved posters of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi during BJP MLA Gopichand Padalkar’s rally held recently in Nashik.

Speaking to the media persons in Pune, Fadnavis, who is also the state’s home minister, said that he had spoken to Padalkar and asked him to communicate with the police. Fadnavis added that glorification of criminal elements like Bishnoi will not be tolerated and action will be taken against those who waved his posters.

Some persons were seen holding posters of gangster Bishnoi during a “Hindu Virat Sabha” rally held in Nashik, in the presence of Padalkar, on the occasion of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Jayanti on Wednesday. Videos of Bishnoi’s posters in the rally went viral.

Lodged in the Sabarmati Central Jail in Gujarat, Bishnoi is a dreaded gangster facing multiple criminal cases in different parts of the country. In the last few years his and his gang’s name cropped in connection with sensational crimes like the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in 2022, firing outside the residence of film star Salman Khan in Mumbai in 2023 and killing of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddique in October last year. Criminals from Pune district, allegedly associated with Bishnoi gang, were arrested for their involvement in Moosewala and Siddique murders.
