Man kills wife over onions,held

Pune: A man allegedly stabbed his wife to death in Thergaon over a petty dispute on Sunday.

Hinjewadi police said the victim,identified as Vaishali Kumbhar (25),is a mother of two kids. The suspect,Subhash,is a painter. Inspector Parshuram Patil said,Subhash is an alcoholic and the couple has a history of family disputes. On Sunday around 1.30 pm,when he came back home he asked his wife to chop onions as he wanted to prepare scrambled eggs for himself. She refused to do so and the two started fighting. Patil said,Subhash told us that she hit him with a rolling pin after which he stabbed her in the stomach. Hearing her screams,some youths from the locality came to the house and rushed her to Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital where she was declared dead. Subhash was subsequently arrested.

Puneite presents paper on bone cancer

Pune: Puneite Sherron Furtado,who works as a research physiotherapist in Newcastle,recently presented a research paper on bone and soft tissue cancer as part of the platform presentation competition at the European Musculo-skeletal Society Oncology Meeting held in Sweden. Sherron also attended seventh Annual Patients & Supporters Conference organised by the Bone Cancer Research Trust Charity (BCRT),United Kingdom,at Leeds. At the conference attended by patients and professionals,Sherron convened a workshop on National Quality Improvement Programme for amputees after bone and soft tissue cancer where she presented the findings of her project,said a release.

Foundation Day at MIT,Pune
