No-arrest order of CIRT ex-director,others extended

Special Judge S N Sardesai extended the no-arrest order of former director of Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT) and five employees of Ashok Leyland Limited till Friday.

The CBI was supposed to submit its report on the ad-interim bail application but failed to be present in the court. Hence,the no-arrest order was extended in consensus with the defense lawyers. Six persons were chargesheeted by the CBI’s Anti Corruption Bureau for allegedly supplying around 90 buses to Delhi Transport Corporation in which substandard material was used.

Excise dept seizes truckload of foreign liquor

The state excise department seized a truck full of foreign liquor worth Rs 15.5 lakh at Katraj Dehuroad bypass road on the eve of the Ganesh immersion procession on Saturday. The state excise department officials got the information that foreign liquor is being transported illegally from Goa to Pune for consumption during the Ganesh immersion procession.

The state excise team led by superintendent Sunil Chavan and deputy superintendent Dilip More stopped the truck at Warje on the Katraj Dehuroad bypass road. The team seized 265 boxes of whiskey and 350 boxes of beer. The liquor was being transported without any permission and excise tax. Truck driver identified as Sambhaji Dadarao Girde and his aide Gautam Pandurang Kamble —both residents of Nanded— were arrested and produced before the magisterial court. The duo were remanded in police custody till September 14.
