State Higher and Technical Education Minister Rajesh Tope on Friday said the city will start the countrys first Masters programme in Hotel Management and Catering Technology (HMCT).
The masters degree course,which will have an intake capacity of 24 students for this academic session,is likely to start next week. For now,the classes for the course will be held at regional office of Directorate of Technical Education in the city.
He was in the city to lay the foundation stone of two new buildings,one for Maharashtra Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology and the other for a regional office of the Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education (MSBTE).
The HMCT building will house a girls hostel that can accommodate 48 students,a research laboratory and a restaurant to train students. An amount of Rs 13 crore has been sanctioned for the building.
For MSBTE building,Rs 16 crore has been sanctioned. This building will be equipped with a residential training facility for faculty. The four-storey building will have two basement floors. Its three floors will be used for training polytechnic faculty, said Tope.
