Pune Municipal Commissioner Mahesh Zagade on Saturday said that the corporation is prepared to face the second wave of swine flu. However, with the support of private practitioners.

Zagade was speaking at the inaugural function of GPCON 2009,organised by the General Practitioner’s Association and Indian Medical Association.

Saying that the authorities, with the support of private practitioners, could draw up an action plan to battle swine flu,Zagade told the practitioners to inform the municipal authorities if they observe any increase in the number of cases in any particular area.

Swine flu patients are categorised A,B and C-mild,moderate and serious infection respectively. As per the guidelines, both moderate and serious categories need to be administered Tamiflu tablets. He said that some patients are not taking Tamiflu since they do not know where to get it from. “This should not happen when all 53 centres of the PMC as well as private chemists keep the tablets,” he said.

Dr D Shirole, former president of IMA,said it will extend all supports to the civic body.

The GPCON-2009 focuses on empowering family physicians with knowledge, attitude and skills to don the role of a true superspecialist. Experts will make presentations on pyrexia, hypertension, obesity, endocrinology and cardiology. Besides paper presentations and workshops, there are essay competition, best clinic competition, free paper presentation and poster competition on swine flu.
