The future of the City Centre project might be in doldrums. The ruling Nationalist Congress Party,on the basis of its majority in Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, passed the project in the general body meeting on Monday. Corporators from opposition parties raised a hue and cry in the house voicing their opposition to the project.
On Tuesday,Shiv Sena MP Gajanan Babar and some Congress corporators said that they would file a public interest litigation (PIL) and highlight the alleged irregularities in the project.
Addressing the media,Babar said, opposition corprators have raised objections saying that the nature of the project is such that the municipal corporation would get a raw deal from the private partner.
When asked if Shiv Sena is opposed to the project, why did Sulba Ubale, party leader of Shiv Sena in PCMC voted in support of the project,Babar said,She was instructed by senior party leaders to oppose the project. But if some people supported the project then it is their own opinion. The party has given her a show-cause notice for the act. The point about Sena men working against the party policy would be conveyed to senior party leader Arvind Sawant, he said.
Sena would oppose the city centre project till the end. The dockets containing information about the project, which were given to the corporators by the municipal authorities, contain incomplete information. The details about the project are being hidden from opposition. The land, which was earlier reserved for Science Park,is now allotted for a business centre. In all likelihood, the project would end up benefiting a private developer who bags it, said Babar.
Meanwhile,Congress corporators Tukaram Bhondve,Satish Darekar and Gopal Kute also opposed the project and have threatened to approach the court. They said that the land is in a prime area in Pimpri-Chinchwad and would be handed to a private developer for a small change in return. NCP,the ruling party, said that the PCMC would benefit from the project. But they do not tell us how much money would the civic body make.
