President in city today,some roads to be shut
Some roads in the city will be closed for traffic on Thursday in connection with the visit of President Pratibha Patil. The traffic police said in a release that the Airport Road,Ambedkar Society Road,Alandi Road,Holkar Bridge,General Cariappa Road,Range Hills Road,Ganeshkhind Road and Aundh Road would be closed for traffic from 4.10 pm to enable the passage of the President’s convoy.

Four arrested for dowry death
The Pimpri police on Wednesday arrested one Khanderao Subhedar and three of his family members for allegedly abetting the suicide of his 31-year-old wife by mentally and physically torturing her for dowry. The woman had consumed poison on December 28 and had died the next day. Khanderao,a purchase manager with a company in MIDC,had married the victim,Seema Subhedar,in May. The couple was staying with Khanderao’s parents after marriage. Sub inspector RG Sayyad said,“Both the families are originally from Karnataka. Seema’s brother Chidambar Kulkarni had lodged a complaint with us,based on which we arrested Khanderao,his father Laxmikant,mother Suman and cousin Rashmi. All of them were produced in the court and remanded in police custody.” The four have been charged under Sections 498 (A) (domestic violence),306 (abetting suicide) and 304 (B) (dowry death) of the Indian Penal Code.
