Former ISRO chairman to be awarded
* DR D Y Patil University will confer degree of Doctor of Science ( Honoris Causa ) on Prof UR Rao,former chairman,Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO),for his contribution to Space Science and Space Technology and Baba Ramdev,founder of Patanjali Yogpeeth,Hardwar,for his contribution in the field of Yoga and Ayurvedic research. University vice-chancellor PD Patil will confer the degree. The degree will be conferred in the first ever convocation of the varsity to be held on April 10. Union Minister for Power Sushilkumar Shinde will grace the occasion as the chief guest and will deliver the convocation address to the students. Tripura Governor DY Patil will be the guest of honour and PD Patil would preside over the function. Brig Amarjit Singh will present the university report. As many as 28 students will receive the University gold medals for standing first in their respective final year examinations. Also,943 students will be conferred with Degrees and Post Graduate Diploma’s from various faculties.

Provide jobs to Toradmal kin : RPI
* President of Matang Front of Republican Party of India Hanumant Sathe has demanded government jobs for the kin of the Toradmal family,four members of which were charred to death in a fire recently in Kadaknathvadi village in Vashi taluka of Usmanabad district. Sathe along with party workers visited the place on Tuesday. In a press note issued here on Wednesday,Sathe has said the Toradmals belonged to the ‘Matang’ community. “In the fire,Ramling Toradmal,his wife and two children lost their lives. As there is no one to look after the third child,we demand assurance of a government job for him.” Sathe also said RPI president Ramdas Athawale would meet the Chief Minister in this regard soon. The district administration of Usmanabad has announced Rs 2 lakh compensation for the kin of the victims.

ISO certificate for Pune People’s Co-op Bank
* Pune People’s Cooperative Bank has recently been awarded ISO 9001-2008 certificate. An international auditing firm BSI conducted ISO audit of the Bank for quality and overall systems. The bank was established in the city in 1952. The bank will be opening two branches at Nagar Road in Pune and at Kedgaon in Daund Taluka. Chairman of the bank Vijaykant Kothari said that the bank would ensure that the customer service would be taken care of with highest priority.

Meet on urbanisation and health
* Symbiosis College of Nursing in collaboration with State Health IEC Bureau and State Health System Resource Centre,will organise a seminar on ‘ Urbanisation and Health’ on April 10. Dr Subhash Salunke,Asst. Regional Director,World Health Organisation will be the chief guest at the function,said a press note issued here on Thursday.

Hong Kong actor to visit eye hospital
* Ng Kwan Yue Sandra,a well-known actor from Hong Kong will soon visit H V Desai Eye Hospital here. Known for comic roles,she received the best actress award at the Golden Horse Film Festival in Taiwan in 2006. Sandra will be visiting the hospital between April 10 and 12,where she will observe live eye surgeries done on paediatric patients.
She will also inaugurate retinoblastoma clinic (Paediatric Eye Cancer Unit) at thehospital,said a release.
